About
Hey hey!
I've been at this for over 10 years, and I can honestly say that I love it more & more every day. I know that once I get to my next shoot, I’m going to either meet some wonderful new people, or hang out with familiar faces, and it’s going to be awesome. And when I say awesome, I really mean it! I have SO. MUCH. FUN. when I’m at a shoot. I’m acting like a crazy person (not a far stretch!), saying all kinds of weird things to get a smile from kiddos, LAUGHING because that’s what I do when I’m having fun, and maybe singing a round or two of ‘Baby Shark, do do, do do’. Other times, there might be a little less ‘Baby Shark, do do’ and a little more ‘I do’. My shoots don’t feel like work. I have a blast. And then, after we’re done, I get to re-live the whole thing when I edit & get to flex even more creative muscles. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve teared up while editing a wedding, or when putting the finishing touches on a newborn shoot. I’m a big nerd, but I’m a big nerd who cannot imagine doing anything else!
I guess I’m putting so much emphasis on how much I LOVE being a photographer because it is my most important and constant goal with every shoot for my clients to not only love the final photos, but to love the experience as well. To me, those go hand-in-hand. I do everything I can to make sure my clients are having a great time, because that 100% shows through in the photos. I’m also kind of obsessed with how different each client/shoot is, because those differences are what makes life interesting. I try my hardest to celebrate every client for who THEY are specifically at this moment in time. So many times my favorite shot of a session isn’t the ‘perfect’ shot (although we always seem to get those, too!), but it perfectly show the client as they are. Think about it. In 20 years, I know I’d much rather have a photo of my nephew making a signature ‘crazy’ face that makes me laugh and remember the times he made that face at me, as opposed to a ‘perfect’ smiling one of him that, by the time he’s 30, will be a dime a dozen.
What this all boils down to for me: I absolutely LOVE my ‘job’. I love the connections I get to make with my clients over several years. Some I’ve even been with for a decade by this point, and I’ve seen them grow and start their own families. I feel like sometimes I actually become a small part of the family, and because of this I’m really able to tailor each shoot to that specific client. Every shoot is completely unique, and I am so lucky to have this extremely personal and incredible opportunity to be let into so many wonderful people’s lives. I seriously cannot imagine doing anything else with my life.
